Congress has co-opted Silicon Valley to do through the back door what government cannot directly accomplish under the Constitution. Wall Street Journal.
Both Washington and Beijing censor their media. America does so covertly, China overtly.

The Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, hands control of all foreign media to the US government and , though the US claims that China bans VPNs makes Americans’ VPN access to foreign media illegal. This clip shows why:
China’s falling firewall
Despite what we’ve been told, the PRC has never feared its citizens discovering the truth about China or the West because China’s domestic media have never lied to them. Now, Shanghai businesses will bypass the Great Firewall and altogether, for “the convenience of enterprises in the business district to access the international internet”.
Sweet Land of Liberty?
The idea that America led the world in AI (it didn’t), the notion that US media is uncensored is a myth. Even US academics are daily denied the right to publish research results that contradict the official narrative and even jailed for doing so. No wonder just 6% of Americans have confidence in their media (vs. 80% of Chinese.
