China’s government has fewer problems than America’s government because China’s government is run by honest professionals.
The PRC government makes decisions based on public feedback.
America’s government is run by corrupt amateurs. They make decisions based on campaign contributors’ feedback.
The results are easily seen in the two publics’ opinions of whether their countries are moving in what they consider the right direction:
Even at the best of times, economies and governments are the most complicated and difficult things on earth to run. We would find it a breeze to run Lawrence Livermore Laboratory (currently managed by a Nobel physicist because it’s so damn hard) compared to running the US Government.
The folks with the longest experience running economies, the Chinese, abandoned amateur management around the time of Christ. They founded government training academies and instituted a curriculum that only geniuses could master, then gave the top graduates 30 years’ experience running provinces before allowing the most honest and successful of them to make decisions.
They still do exactly that and, whaddaya know? it still works as well as ever and they still have the biggest, healthiest economy on earth.
There’s no secret sauce to successful governments and successful economies: hire honest geniuses and follow their instructions.
Professional politicians only create problems.
As H.L. Mencken observed about politicians, “All the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre”.
Professional, honest governments can make intelligent tradeoffs and get tremendous return on the nation’s investments as we can see with investments in education. That’s why China’s government has fewer problems than America’s?
The chart below shows countries’ return on education investment compared to their GDP per capita.
Do you notice anything odd about it?
If you guessed ‘the absence of the biggest spender’, you’re right: the USA’s corrupt, amateur government spends more on education than any country on earth and its kids are 44th. in the world.
Our kids are off the chart. In a bad way.
Why Does China’s government have fewer problems than America?
Because allowing corrupt amateurs to run your government makes no more sense than allowing used car salesmen to run Lawrence Livermore Laboratory.
A lot less sense, in fact. That’s why China’s government has fewer problems than America.
